Bartonia paniculata ssp. iodandra was already described and the name validly published by Benjamin Lincoln Robinson. It was not until 1922, however, that John Montague Gillett reclassified it into todays valid botanical systematics.

Bartonia paniculata ssp. iodandra is a subspecies in the genus Bartonia (screwstem) which contains 4 species and belongs to the family of the Gentianaceae (Gentian Family).
