Arrabidaea chica was already described and the name validly published by Friedrich Wilhelm Heinrich Alexander von Humboldt and Aimé Jacques Alexandre Bonpland. It was not until 1868, however, that Jean Baptiste Verlot reclassified it into todays valid botanical systematics.

Arrabidaea chica is a species in the genus Arrabidaea which belongs to the family of the Bignoniaceae (Trumpet-creeper Family).
