Arnica chamissonis was described in 1813 by Christian Friedrich Lessing. The name is considered as validly published.

The Leafy Leopardsban is a species in the genus Arnica which contains 32 species and belongs to the family of the Asteraceae (Aster Family).

The perennials grow to a height of approximately 0,8 meters.They grow at a moderate rate and have a short lifespan.

Arnica chamissonis is a decidious plant with simple leaves. The leaves are arranged alternately along the stems. They are lanceolate with entire margins.

Arnica chamissonis is native to Alaska, British Columbia, the Northwest of the US, California, the Rocky Mountains and the Southwest of the US.

The Leafy Leopardsban prefers a sunny site and can withstand temperatures down to -45,5º C. It grows best in sandy or pebbly, loamy soil that is moderately moist to moist. The plants do not tolerate droughts. They will do quite well even in anaerobic soils and are moderately tolerant of limy conditions.
