Anthriscus cerefolium var. cerefolium was already described and the name validly published by Carl Linnaeus. It was not until some time later, however, that George Franz Hoffmann reclassified it into todays valid botanical systematics.

Anthriscus cerefolium var. cerefolium is a variety in the genus Anthriscus (chervil, a common name also used for Chaerophyllum ) which contains 12 species and belongs to the family of the Apiaceae (Carrot Family).
