Ananas comosus (= Ananas ananas, Ananas sativus, Ananassa sativa, Bromelia ananas, Bromelia comosa), commonly known as Pineapple, is a perennial.

Ananas comosus was already described and the name validly published by Carl Linnaeus. It was not until 1917, however, that Elmer Drew Merrill reclassified it into todays valid botanical systematics.

The Pineapple is a species in the genus Ananas (pineapple) which contains 8 species and belongs to the family of the Bromeliaceae (Bromeliad Family).

The perennials grow to a height of approximately 1 meter and develop into clumps. They grow at a slow rate and have a moderate lifespan.

Ananas comosus is an evergreen plant with simple leaves. The leaves appear at the base of the plant. They are dark green and linear with spiny margins.
