Aloe succotrina was described in 1773 by Carlo Allioni. The name is considered as validly published.

Aloe succotrina is a species in the genus Aloe which contains 446 species and belongs to the family of the Aloaceae (Aloe Family).

Aloe succotrina is native to South Africa, Lesotho and Swaziland, is naturalized in Sweden and south France. It is a protected species according to the Washington Convention.

Aloe succotrina prefers a sunny site and can withstand temperatures down to -6,6º C. It grows best in pebbly, loamy soil that is moderately moist. The plants are highly drought tolerant.
