Aegilops neglecta was already described by Esprit Requien but it was not until 1834 that the name was validly published by Antonio Bertoloni.

Aegilops neglecta is a species in the genus Aegilops (goatgrass) which contains 25 species and belongs to the family of the Poaceae (Grass Family).
