Aegilops bicornis was already described and the name validly published by Pehr Forsskål. It was not until some time later, however, that Hippolyte François Jaubert and Édouard Spach reclassified it into todays valid botanical systematics.

Aegilops bicornis is a species in the genus Aegilops (goatgrass) which contains 25 species and belongs to the family of the Poaceae (Grass Family).
