Pachypodium namaquanum was described in 1869 by Friedrich Martin Josef Welwitsch. The name is considered as validly published.

Pachypodium namaquanum is a species in the genus Pachypodium which contains 20 species and belongs to the family of the Apocynaceae (Dogbane Family).
