Achnatherum lemmonii var. lemmonii was already described and the name validly published by George Vasey. It was not until some time later, however, that Mary Elizabeth Barkworth reclassified it into todays valid botanical systematics.

Achnatherum lemmonii var. lemmonii is a variety in the genus Achnatherum (needlegrass) which belongs to the family of the Poaceae (Grass Family).

The plants grow to a height of approximately 1 meter.They grow at a slow rate and have a moderate lifespan.

Achnatherum lemmonii var. lemmonii is a decidious plant. They are mid green.

The flowers are yellow. The plants bloom from June to September.

They develop in summer.
