Achimenes longiflora was already described and the name validly published by Martín Sessé y Lacasta and José Mariano Mociño. It was not until 1778, however, that Augustin Pyramus de Candolle reclassified it into todays valid botanical systematics.

Achimenes longiflora is a species in the genus Achimenes (cupid's bower) which contains 25 species and belongs to the family of the Gesneriaceae (Gesneriad Family).

The perennials grow to a height of approximately 0,25 meters.

The leaves are arranged alternately along the stems. They are dark green.
