Eucodonia verticillata was already described and the name validly published by Martin Martens and Henri Guillaume Galeotti. It was not until 1976, however, that Hans Joachim Wiehler reclassified it into todays valid botanical systematics.

Eucodonia verticillata is a species in the genus Eucodonia which contains 2 species and belongs to the family of the Gesneriaceae (Gesneriad Family).
