Achillea aegyptiaca var. taygetea was already described and the name validly published by Pierre Edmond Boissier and Theodor Heinrich Hermann von Heldreich. It was not until some time later, however, that Eugen von Halácsy reclassified it into todays valid botanical systematics.

Achillea aegyptiaca var. taygetea is a variety in the genus Achillea (yarrow) which contains 85 species and belongs to the family of the Asteraceae (Aster Family).
