Achillea millefolium var. borealis was already described and the name validly published by August Gustav Heinrich von Bongard. It was not until some time later, however, that Oliver Atkins Farwell reclassified it into todays valid botanical systematics.

Achillea millefolium var. borealis is a variety in the genus Achillea (yarrow) which contains 85 species and belongs to the family of the Asteraceae (Aster Family).
