Achillea ageratifolia ssp. ageratifolia was already described and the name validly published by James Edward Smith. It was not until some time later, however, that Pierre Edmond Boissier reclassified it into todays valid botanical systematics.

The Greek Yarrow is a subspecies in the genus Achillea (yarrow) which contains 85 species and belongs to the family of the Asteraceae (Aster Family).
