Acer platanoides ssp. platanoides is a subspecies in the genus Acer (maple) which contains 111 species and belongs to the family of the Aceraceae (Maple Family).

Acer platanoides ssp. platanoides is a decidious plant with simple leaves. The leaves are arranged alternately along the stems. They are palmately lobed with finely toothed margins. The foliage colour in autumn is yellow.

The flowers are five-petaled. The plants bloom from April to May. The flowers are arranged in corymbs.

The fruits are schizocarps.

Acer platanoides ssp. platanoides is native to Europe, with the exception of the British Isles and the Caucasus.

Acer platanoides ssp. platanoides prefers a sunny to half shady site and can withstand temperatures down to -34,4º C. It grows best in sandy or pebbly, loamy soil that is dry to moist.
