Acer mono ssp. mono var. mayrii was already described and the name validly published by Fritz Kurt Alexander von Schwerin. It was not until 1930, however, that Takenoshin Nakai reclassified it into todays valid botanical systematics.

Acer mono ssp. mono var. mayrii is a variety in the genus Acer (maple) which contains 111 species and belongs to the family of the Aceraceae (Maple Family).
