Acer longipes ssp. longipes was already described and the name validly published by Alfred Rehder. It was not until some time later, however, that P.C. de Jong reclassified it into todays valid botanical systematics.

Acer longipes ssp. longipes is a subspecies in the genus Acer (maple) which contains 111 species and belongs to the family of the Aceraceae (Maple Family).
