Acer hyrcanum ssp. intermedium was already described and the name validly published by Joseph Pan?i?. It was not until 1925, however, that Joseph Friedrich Nicolaus Bornmüller reclassified it into todays valid botanical systematics.

Acer hyrcanum ssp. intermedium is a subspecies in the genus Acer (maple) which contains 111 species and belongs to the family of the Aceraceae (Maple Family).
