Acer heldreichii ssp. trautvetteri (= Acer insigne G. Nicholson, Acer trautvetteri), commonly known as Red Bud Maple, is a tree.

Acer heldreichii ssp. trautvetteri was already described and the name validly published by Jakob Sergejevitsch Medwedew. It was not until 1982, however, that Edouard Muret reclassified it into todays valid botanical systematics.

The Red Bud Maple is a subspecies in the genus Acer (maple) which contains 111 species and belongs to the family of the Aceraceae (Maple Family).

The trees grow to a height of approximately 15 meters and have a broadly columnar shape.

Acer heldreichii ssp. trautvetteri is a decidious plant with simple leaves. The leaves are arranged alternately along the stems. They are dark green and palmately lobed. The foliage colour in autumn is yellow.

The flowers are five-petaled and yellow. The plants bloom in May. The flowers are arranged in umbels.
The red fruits are schizocarps.

Acer heldreichii ssp. trautvetteri is native to Turkey and the western Caucasus.

The Red Bud Maple can withstand temperatures down to -23,3º C. It grows best in sandy or pebbly, loamy soil.
