Acanthus mollis was described in 1982 by Carl Linnaeus. The name is considered as validly published.

Acanthus mollis is a species in the genus Acanthus (bear's breeches) which contains 30 species and belongs to the family of the Acanthaceae (Acanthus Family).

The perennials grow to a height of approximately 1,5 meters and have a stemless habit.

Acanthus mollis is a decidious plant with simple leaves. They are dark green and obovate with deeply lobed margins.

The flowers are lipped. The plants bloom from July to August. The flowers are arranged in spikes.

Acanthus mollis is native to France, Croatia, Macedonia, the Iberian Peninsula and the Apennine Peninsula.
