Acampe rigida was already described and the name validly published by James Edward Smith, based on a prior description by Francis Buchanan-Hamilton. It was not until 1970, however, that Peter Francis Hunt reclassified it into todays valid botanical systematics.

Acampe rigida is a species in the genus Acampe which contains 7 species and belongs to the family of the Orchidaceae (Orchid Family).
