Acaena pallida was already described and the name validly published by Thomas Kirk. It was not until 1903, however, that Timothy Field Allen reclassified it into todays valid botanical systematics.

Acaena pallida is a species in the genus Acaena (bidi-bidi) which contains 110 species and belongs to the family of the Rosaceae (Rose Family).
