Acacia nilotica ssp. adstringens was already described and the name validly published by Heinrich Christian Friedrich Schumacher and Peter Thonning. It was not until some time later, however, that Guy Edouard Roberty reclassified it into todays valid botanical systematics.

Acacia nilotica ssp. adstringens is a subspecies in the genus Acacia (wattle) which contains 1200 species and belongs to the family of the Fabaceae (Legume Family).
