Deuterocohnia lorentziana was already described and the name validly published by Carl Christian Mez. It was not until 1992, however, that Michael A. Spencer reclassified it into todays valid botanical systematics.

Deuterocohnia lorentziana is a species in the genus Deuterocohnia which contains 17 species and belongs to the family of the Bromeliaceae (Bromeliad Family).

The perennials grow to a height of approximately 0,15 meters and develop into mounds or cushions.
