Abies lasiocarpa var. lasiocarpa (= Abies lasiocarpa, Abies subalpina), commonly known as Alpine Fir, Subalpine Fir, is a tree.

Abies lasiocarpa var. lasiocarpa was already described and the name validly published by William Jackson Hooker. It was not until some time later, however, that Thomas Nuttall reclassified it into todays valid botanical systematics.

The Alpine Fir is a variety in the genus Abies (fir) which contains 48 species and belongs to the family of the Pinaceae (Pine Family).

The trees grow to a height of approximately 10 meters and have a flame-shaped, narrowly conical shape.

Abies lasiocarpa var. lasiocarpa is an evergreen plant with coniferous leaves with a cushion-like base. The leaves are arranged opposite one another. They are greyish green.
