Naming
Asclepias vestita ssp. parishii was already described and the name validly published by Willis Linn Jepson. It was not until 1925, however, that Robert Everard Woodson reclassified it into todays valid botanical systematics.

Asclepias vestita ssp. parishii is a subspecies in the genus Asclepias (silkweed) which contains 108 species and belongs to the family of the Apocynaceae (Dogbane Family).
